BANNU

The sit-in by civil society and political parties in Bannu has entered its fourth day. On Monday, July 22, jirga leaders of the sit-in met with Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to present their 10 demands.

While talking with Voicepk, jirga member Maulana Nasim Ali Shah enlisted the demands presented to the CM, and said that the CM has decided to place the jirga’s demands before the apex committee on Thursday, July 25, and promised to return the next day on Friday, July 26, to inform the participants about the committee’s decisions.

They rejected the Azm-e-Istehkam Operation in Bannu, called for an end to the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Taliban differential, demanded that missing persons must be presented in courts, emphasized the need for strengthening the counter-terrorism department to end terrorism, requested a judicial inquiry into the July 19 firing incident, among other demands.

Maulana Shah added that if the demands are not accepted, the sit-in would continue.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Barrister Saif said in a statement that it was decided during the meeting with jirga leaders that a provincial apex committee meeting would be called on July 25. The meeting will address all issues related to terrorism, and formulate a policy for the restoration of law and order in the province.
