ISLAMABAD

On Monday, July 22, members of the Bannu Protection Movement (BPM) held a press conference at the Islamabad Press Club to address the firing incident during the peace march rally in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 19. They demanded immediate restoration of peace in the area.

Addressing the press conference, Dilnawaz Khan, Chairman BPM, said that a young man was killed and 27 others were injured in the peaceful protest – “A judicial inquiry into the incident must be conducted at the earliest.”

Shahid Nawaz Khan, a member of BPM, said that maintaining law and order in the area is the responsibility of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. “The people cannot be left to the mercy of terrorists.”

Following the press conference, the movement’s participants staged a protest outside the Islamabad Press Club. A large number of people from Bannu joined the protest, expressing that the level of insecurity in their area has become intolerable.

Farman Khan, a resident of Bannu, stressed on the need for establishing peace throughout the country, including Bannu.

The participants carried white flags and placards as symbols of peace and chanted slogans for the restoration of peace.
