President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Parvez Elahi’s private secretary Chaudhry Masood Ahmad, and a senior PTI member Ahmad Khan, died in police custody in Mandi Bahauddin on February 5, 2024.
Seventy year-old Chaudhry Masood Ahmad, who had served as secretary to Pervez Elahi, was arrested a few days ago by the Industrial Area Police near his village Saroki in Gujrat. He was detained at the Kharian Cantt police station.
Due to his deteriorating health on the night of February 5, Ahmad was taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where he passed away. DPO Gujrat Asad Muzaffar took notice of the incident, after which the first information report (FIR) was registered. Four suspects, including ASI Kamran Akhtar of Industrial Estate Police Station, were nominated in the case.
The FIR stated that due to the negligence of ASI, Chaudhry Masood Ahmad died in custody, whereas, Muhammad Masood died of a heart attack in also police custody.
In another similar incident, reportedly, Ahmad Khan, a senior citizen in Mandi Bahauddin, was taken into custody from his home for organizing a corner meeting in support of PTI candidate Basma Riaz Asghar. According to a report published in Dawn, Khan was subjected to mental and physical torture, which led to his death on February 5.
PTI candidate Sumaira Elahi from PP-34, while talking to Voicepk, confirmed that “Both men were associated with the PTI. They were picked up from their homes by the police and they died in police custody.”
In a recent interview with Voicepk, Sumaira Elahi had mentioned crackdown on PTI workers by the police in Gujarat during the election campaign. “The police is arresting PTI workers to prevent them from participating in the election campaign,” she said.
After the incident in Mandi Bahauddin, a case was registered by the son of Ahmad Khan, Mudasir, in which 25 police officers of the police station
