The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a landmark ruling calling for the eradication of forced child labour in all settings, including households. The case originated from the rescue of a maid and has triggered a series of actions that could bring about significant changes in child labour practices across the province.

The court’s decision declares that individuals who hire children as domestic workers are committing a punishable offense, with cases to be registered against them. The Child Protection & Welfare Bureau (CP&WB) has been directed to take appropriate measures against violators, while the police will collaborate with relevant departments to prevent child labour.

Furthermore, the court has ordered legal action against parents who compel their children to work, delivering a powerful message against viewing children as a source of income instead of providing them with education and care.
