Tour guide, accomplices allegedly gang-rape foreigner

An American woman was allegedly gang-raped by her tour guide and his two accomplices at Fort Munro, a hill station in Dera Ghazi Khan on Sunday, July 17.

A case has been registered under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 292B (distributing obscene material) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

According to the first information report (FIR), the travel blogger was on a visit to Pakistan and had traveled from Karachi to Lahore, where she was residing with her fiance, on July 15. She hired one Muzammil Shehzad, also a US national, whom she contacted through a tour guides group on Facebook.

The suspect along with another tour guide, Abid, first took the blogger to Rajanpur, then to Jampur and then to Fort Munro where she was staying at a hotel. Muzammil and Abid, along with another accomplice, were also staying at the same hotel and allegedly gang-raped her.

The woman also stated that the accused made a video of the incident, and threatened to kill her if she went to the police.

On Tuesday, the Border Military Police arrested Muzammil and Abid from Rajanpur on the complaint of the rape survivor, and presented them before a local court to obtain their physical remand. Meanwhile, the complainant has been sent to a hospital for a medico legal examination.

Police stated that raids are being conducted for the arrest of the remaining suspect.

Man shoots wife dead in crowded bazaar

A man allegedly shot dead his wife and injured a minor passerby in a bazaar in Lahore’s Badami Bagh on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim, Fauzia, was in the busy shopping area when her husband, Khalid “Nomi” Butt, arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on her before fleeing. A five year old boy was also shot in the attack. Both were shifted to a hospital for treatment where Fauzia succumbed to her injuries while the boy is said to be out of danger.

Police arrested the suspect on murder charges. It is believed that Khalid killed his wife over a domestic dispute.

Two accused of gang-raping minor girl

Two men allegedly raped am 11-year-old girl in Haji Shah village, Attock, on Tuesday.

According to the rape suvivor’s father, the girl had gone out to fetch milk from a store when the suspects abducted her and took her inside their home where they gang-raped her. They also reportedly threatened the girl with dire consequences if she informed anyone.

Upon being released, the girl immediately told her grandmother of the ordeal. She was taken to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault.
