Man takes sister’s life for ‘honour’ in Okara

An Okara man, identified as Hamza, murdered his 22-year-old sister, Sidra Khalid, under the pretext of ‘honour’.

According to reports, Sidra was visiting her parents for the Eid holidays where they requested her to quit her profession as a fashion model, however she refused. In a fit of rage, Hamza gunned his sister down. Police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s mother and have also arrested the accused.

Case against necrophiliacs for defiling corpse

Gujrat police have registered a case against unidentified persons for allegedly unearthing and performing sexual acts with the corpse of a disabled girl a day after she was buried. The body was thrown away after being defiled.

While no arrests have been made as of yet, the Punjab Government has stated that the case is being investigated using modern technology.

Decline in repatriation of Afghan refugees

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), only about a hundred Afghan refugees voluntarily returned to Afghanistan during the first four months of this year, comprising a six percent drop from numbers recorded in the first quarter of 2021. The UNHCR added that prominent factors for the decline in repatriated refugees are the deteriorating economic and human rights situation in Afghanistan.
