Lodhran woman killed in the name of honor
A man named Asif beat his wife to death in the Lodhran area of Bahawalnagar on Sunday, in a case of suspected ‘honor killing’. According to the police, the accused bludgeoned his wife to death. Asif is currently in police custody while the body of the wife has been transferred to the hospital for post-mortem.
Pakistani woman detained in India to return this week
Senator from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Irfan Siddiqui told Dawn newspaper that Sameera Rehman and her 4-year-old daughter Sana Fatima who have been left stranded in India due to negligence of the Pakistani foreign office are due to return home this week after the Pakistani authorities finally completed the legal requirements for her release.
The judiciary has failed to address the issue of missing persons: Hina Jillani
While addressing a session of the Lahore Literary Festival at the Al-Hamra Hall in Lahore senior lawyer Hina Jilani said that on one hand the state was involved in the disappearance of its own citizens while on the other hand, the judiciary has also failed to play its role in addressing this rights violation. For this reason, civil society must play its role in sensitizing the judiciary to violations of human rights.
