Two arrested on rape charges
Gujranwala police have arrested two of the three accused in a case pertaining to the rape of a beggar girl. According to the police, the accused gang-raped the 19-year-old married girl by calling her to a house under the pretext of paying Zakat. The accused fled the scene after the incident.
Woman attempts suicide after domestic dispute
In Faisalabad, a woman named Shahida Bibi allegedly tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire after a domestic dispute. According to Rescue 1122, the victim lost her temper and hit her husband with a wooden stick. The husband was seriously injured as a result of the assault. Afterwards Shahida Bibi set her clothes on fire.
According to doctors, 90 percent of Shahida Bibi’s body is burnt and her condition is in danger while the police are investigating the incident.
Lawyers’ organizations mobilize – again – to block appointment of female judge to SC
The Pakistan Bar Council has started preparations for a massive protest to block the appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik, the fifth senior judge of the Lahore High Court, to the Supreme Court. A meeting of the Judicial Commission will be held on January 5 to decide on the appointment. Earlier in September, Justice Ayesha Malik was nominated as a judge of the Supreme Court but her name could not be agreed upon.
