Former Kashana superintendent, policeman scuffle outside Lahore IG’s office
Former superintendent of Kashana Welfare Home, a welfare shelter for destitute girls in Lahore’s Township, scuffled with a policeman outside the Punjab Inspector General’s office on Thursday, May 27.
In the video of the incident, Afshan Latif, former superintendent of Kashana Welfare Home, can be seen slapping a policeman who slaps her back. Latif was reportedly protesting a case against her and her husband for allegedly burning down their own house two years ago, which she claims was filed to harass and intimidate her.
In late 2019, Latif had alleged that the vulnerable residents of Kashana Welfare Home were being prostituted to Punjab Government officials. She had claimed that during her appointment she had complained to her department against Director-General of Kashana, Afshan Kiran Imtiaz, whom she accused of pressuring her to marry underage girls to high-ranking officials.
In a series of videos uploaded to social media, Latif alleged she was being persecuted by the Punjab Government for whistleblowing. The former superintendent of Kashana in February of 2020 also raised alarm regarding the suspicious death of Iqra Kainat, a former resident of the welfare home whom Latif claimed knew of the exploitation going on at different welfare organizations.
