Man rapes twelve-year-old girl in Attock

Police on Tuesday, March 30, arrested a man for abducting and raping a twelve-year-old within the limits of the Jand police station in Attock. According to reports, the girl was on her way home when she was intercepted by the accused and his friend who were on their motorbike. The accused picked up the girl and took her to his home where he subjected her to sexual assault. Upon returning home, the rape survivor informed her family and a case was registered after a medical exam confirmed sexual assault.

Prime Minister forms committee to review social media rules

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday issued directives for the constitution of an inter-ministerial committee to review the government’s much criticised Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules 2020.

The committee members include Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari who will act as Chair, Parliamentary Secretary on Law and Justice Maleeka Bukhari, Senator and Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom, and Chair of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, who will also act as the committee’s secretary.

The Information Technology and Telecom Division will function as the committee’s secretariat which will intimate the public of the date and venue for consultations with all stakeholders (including those who had petitioned against the proposed social media rules in the Islamabad High Court), while the committee will submit its recommendations to the Premier within 30 days.

Sindh High Court commutes convict’s death penalty to life

A two-member bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice K. K. Agha and Justice Abdul Mobeen Lakho on Tuesday commuted the death penalty awarded to one Jabbar Ali to life imprisonment. Ali was convicted by a Malir district and sessions court of stabbing dead his wife in Ibrahim Hyderi in 2018.
