Body of suspected ‘honour’ killing victim found in Malir
Tuesday, March 23, the body of a young woman was discovered at a construction site in the Madina Colony of Manghopir neighbourhood in Malir, Karachi.
Rescue 1122 responders and police shifted the corpse to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy where she was identified as Zameera, wife of Ghulam Haider and mother of two children. The victim’s family had reported her missing when she left to visit an Ehsaas Programme center on Monday and did not return. Her body was discovered in an under-construction house on Tuesday morning – the family claims that she had been strangled to death.
Police are investigating the case as a possible ‘honour’ killing and have taken in Ghulam Haider and her brother for questioning.
Woman dies under mysterious circumstances in Chakwal
Conflicting reports as to the mysterious death of a woman in Amir Pur Mangan village in Chakwal on Sunday have emerged, causing confusion.
A Rescue 1122 media coordinator stated that on Sunday night, the woman was clubbed to death by her husband with an iron rod. According to the couple’s ten-year-old son, the two often quarreled. However, police did not register a case as per their investigation the woman had committed suicide following the argument.
In this version of events, the woman’s husband stopped her from consuming a fatal dose of sleeping pills which resulted in a quarrel. In anger, the husband left home with three of their children while the eldest son remained with his mother. At her husband’s departure, the woman ingested a fatal amount of sleeping pills.
An autopsy report is still awaited.
Protest over Rawalpindi minor’s murder, possible rape
The family of nine-year-old girl whose tortured body was discovered in a neighbour’s house staged a protest in front of the Rawalpindi Civil Lines police station on Tuesday.
According to the family, the minor had gone to get some candy at a nearby store Monday evening. After two hours passed since leaving home, they launched a search and were told by a neighbour that she was accompanied by another girl from the neighbourhood.
The deceased’s uncle and aunt reached the home of the girl their niece was last seen with and found the nine-year-old’s body under a bed. The family states that the corpse bore torture marks – she had bite marks on her face and her trousers were ripped and bloody.
The body has been sent for an autopsy, while an initial medical examination suggested that the victim may have been sexually assaulted before she was murdered. Police have detained Babar Masih in whose house the body was discovered for further questioning.
