Father of missing teen girl pleads for her recovery

The father of fourteen-year-old Asma Shumal on Monday, March 15, pleaded to the higher authorities for the recovery of his daughter in a press conference at the Karachi Press Club. Asma went missing on February 4 when she had left home to sit for an exam at the Islamabad Model College for Girls. Upon launching a search, her brother came to know that Asma never arrived at school that morning.

The girl’s father, Mohammad Shumal, stated that he and his family faced resistance from officers at the Ramna police station in lodging a missing complaint. He added that after 15 days since her disappearance, the police were able to ascertain through call records that Asma was in Karachi but then began demanding Rs. 1.5 to 2 lacs for travelling expenses.

Man shoots widow for refusing proposal in Karachi

One Wasim (alias Babar) on Monday shot and critically injured 50-year-old Kiran Naz in her home in Baldia Town, Karachi for turning down his marriage proposal. Kiran sustained four gunshot wounds and was wheeled to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment where she is battling for her life. A case has been registered at the Saeedabad police station – Wasim has so far managed to evade arrest.

Trans persons demand arrest of harassers

Members of the trans community in a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday demanded the immediate arrest of a group of abusers.

Addressing the conference, General Secretary of Trans Action Pakistan Arzoo Khan stated that her community were being stalked, tortured and sexually harassed by 10 individuals over the course of the past two months, however no action has been taken against them by the authorities despite repeatedly raising this issue.

She warned of protests if the gang of abusers were not arrested within three days.
