LHC dismisses Meesha’s plea

Singer Meesha Shafi’s civil revision has been dismissed by the Lahore High Court for seeking suspension of Ali Zafar’s defamation case, till the decision of an FIR against her under cybercrime laws. The judge said the scope and spirit of civil litigation are to enforce the civil rights of the parties so involved, whereas the purpose behind the criminal proceedings is to punish the offender for the alleged offense if proved. He noted that criminal and civil cases can run simultaneously, adding that even a verdict by one court would have no binding force upon the other.
