2,050 new cases, 33 deaths in the last 24 hours

Another 2050 new cases along with 33 deaths from COVID were reported in the last 24 hours as daily cases remain above 2,000 for a week now. Sindh has confirmed 904 new cases and nine deaths while the twin cities reported four deaths and 250 cases in the past 24 hours.

WHO wants schools shut to contain COVID

The World Health Organisation has expressed concern about the government’s delay in school closures saying educational institutions are a major source of virus transmission in the population. WHO representatives in Islamabad said the positivity rate is rising in students and teachers, adding this can escalate infections to the families.

5 schools closed in Karak

The administration has closed down 5 schools for 5 days in Karak tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after 22 students contracted the virus. In the past 24 hours, KP has confirmed 245 cases and four deaths while Balochistan recorded 42 fresh cases.

COVID test workers violating SOPs

News reports have claimed that the health workers are conducting COVID tests without protective gear in violation of the standard operating procedures. The Health Department spokesperson said workers provided with safety kits and will look into reported violations.
