Sexual Assault Cases
According to a report, at least 1005 women and over 650 children were reportedly subjected to rape & sexual assault in Punjab during the first half of this year. The report submitted in NA also said that only 2.5% of all reported cases of violence against women end up convicted by the courts.
Religious Freedom
The Supreme Court has ruled that the government must reasonably regulate the freedom to practice religion on the paramountcy of larger public interest. The verdict came on an appeal filed by an individual who sought security arrangements for Ashura procession.
Forced Conversions
The Parliamentary Committee to Protect Minorities from Forced Conversions has sought guidance from CII on the definition of forced conversions.
The committee decided to visit Sindh early next month to have a better view of the on-ground realities.
