Mass Communication student Sayed Muhammad, from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) had filed a petition at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the suspension and unavailability of the internet in the merged tribal districts, formerly known as FATA.
In the last hearing case on May 11th, the Ministry of Interior told the court that the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) was responsible for providing internet services in the area. Chief Justice IHC Athar Minallah said that the court had no jurisdiction to order the KP government to restore internet services in tribal areas.
The court adjourned the case for an indefinite period and asked the petitioner’s lawyer to submit his arguments about the matter of jurisdiction.
Sayed Muhammad has now urged the KP government to restore the internet services in the area as the future of tens of thousands of tribal students hang in balance because the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has given the universities directives to start online classes after Eid-ul-Fitr
Sayed Muhammad spoke to Voicepk.net to know more about the difficulties being faced by tribal students due to the unavailability of the internet.
“I demand the provincial and federal governments and the Army Chief that for God sake restore the internet services in FATA otherwise an academic year of tribal students will be wasted,” says Sayed.
