Sarim Raza, an undergrad student of LUMS, has set up the Riayat Community Center at the Tajweed Al-Quran, a madressah in Gohawa Village run by Nafeesa Baji. From toddlers to adult women, around 30-40 students are enrolled at the center, learning basic literacy in English and Urdu, everyday math, as well as vocational skills such as sowing. Sarim and Nafeesa hope the Riayat Community Center in Gohawa can become a template for new centers that can be established in other severely impoverished urban areas.
