LAHORE

Hundreds of women protesters took to the streets of Gwadar on Sunday to press for the release of Haq Do Tehreek chief Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman. The demonstration was led by Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, former Balochistan caretaker minister Hussain Wadela, Naveed Kalmati and other leaders associated with the movement.

The burqa-clad women supporters marched through roads of the costal city, chanting slogans against the provincial and federal governments. They also called for the recovery of missing persons in Balochistan.

Addressing the participants, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed called for ending enforced disappearances in the province. He called on the government to recover all missing persons in Balochistan.

The protesters demanded the government release Rehman and implement the deal to protect the livelihood of local fishermen and residents.

The movement’s leader is under arrest since January in connection with rioting and vandalism cases lodged against him over the demonstrations in Gwadar.

Speaking with Voicepk.net, Haq Do Tehreek leader Naveed Kalmati said Rehman was granted bail in 18 cases out of 19 cases while Balochistan High Court and the trial court rejected his bail application in the last case. “Rehman’s lawyers are to file a fresh bail application in the trial court during the hearing of the case next month,” he told Voicepk.net.

Kalmati lamented that the Haq Do Tehreek chief had not been granted bail while a Balochistan minister accused of rape and murder was released on bail.
