AGHS Legal Aid Cell, with the support of the Asma Jahangir Foundation, the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and the Pakistan Bar Council, is organizing its annual flagship Asma Jahangir Conference on the 22nd and 23rd of October 2022.
This year’s theme is Crisis of Constitutionalism in South Asia, in lieu of the wave of political instability gripping the region – from the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in August 2021 and the question of Article 63A of the Constitution of Pakistan in May 2022, to the crisis of government and economic collapse in Sri Lanka till July this year and growing communal violence in India.
Like in all its previous iterations, this year’s conference boasts a who’s who of internationally renowned experts on human rights, law, foreign policy, economics and more.
The conference features a total of 22 sessions, ranging from post-flood relief and response to the rights of the transgender community, as well as the state of democracy in the South Asia region. As with every Asma Jahangir Conference, its organizers aim to formulate actionable policy recommendations for consideration by the Government of Pakistan.
