Female students relegated to back of vans, buses in Mansehra

Mansehra traffic police have banned female students from sitting in the front seats of school vans and buses after a slew of complaints from parents that they were being harassed by drivers. Moreover, police stated that drivers accused of harassment will be fined and may face legal action.

Narowal man attempts to burn alive wife, children

A pregnant woman and her her minor children were rescued from being burned alive by her husband after neighbours heard her cries and intervened on Thursday, February 11. The suspect managed to flee before the arrival of Rescue 1122 responders and the police.

According to the woman’ brother, Jamshed Ali, Amna was married to Mujahid, a labourer by profession, some four years ago and bore him two children. The family was settled in Jaman Chandowal village. However, Ali revealed that Mujahid often tortured his wife and demanded money from his in-laws.

On the day of the incident, the suspect sent his wife back to her parents and told her to bring back Rs. 200,000 with her. However, as the woman’s parents were poor labourers, they were unable to arrange the amount and Amna returned empty handed. Incensed, Mujahid brutalized her and then doused her and their children in petrol. However, hearing her cries as she was being tortured, their neighbours managed to rescue Amna and her children before Mujahid could set them ablaze.

Lahore man kills wife over second marriage bid

Lahore police arrested a man for murdering his wife in their home in Shahdara on January 26, who was initially reported to have been killed by thieves after robbing her of Rs. 700,000. Police were also able to recover the murder weapon and money from his possession.

The accused confessed to the crime, stating that he had wanted to marry another woman but his parents resisted his bid as they were fond of his wife. Moreover, the couple had three children together.
