Lahore Expo Center quarantine facility reopened

The 300-bed Lahore Expo Center quarantine facility has been reopened amidst an influx of COVID-19 patients as the second wave rages on in Punjab. A positivity rate of 5.5% was recorded on Sunday, December 6 in Punjab as 807 fresh infections emerged across the province. 15 people succumbed to the virus in the same time frame. Around 600 ventilators have been reserved in various government and private hospitals in the province revealed Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

On the national level, 3,795 positive cases were detected from 39,076 samples collected in the past 24 hours, taking the daily positivity rate to 9.71%. The recovery rate slipped to 84.8% as 1,530 managed to beat the novel coronavirus disease, while 37 succumbed to it, taking the national death toll to 8,398. There are a total of 55,354 coronavirus patients in various hospitals across Pakistan and in self-isolation. Of these, 2,539 of are critical.

Oxygen shortage kills six in Khyber Teaching Hospital

A shortage in the supply of oxygen in Peshawar’s Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) resulted in the death of six coronavirus patients, aged between 45 and 65 years, in the early hours of Sunday. The remaining patients were shifted to other hospitals, while some were put on manual oxygenation. A spokesperson for the hospital stated that KTH receives around a 5,000 liter supply of oxygen, however on the day of the incident, the supplier had failed to deliver the daily supply.

Faisal Mosque main hall sealed over SOP violation

The Islamabad Capital Territory administration on Sunday sealed the main prayer hall of the iconic Faisal Mosque over violations in the standard operating procedure (SOP) during Friday’s congregation prayers. Worshippers however can continue to pray in the open courtyard.

Earlier, President Arif Alvi issued a joined declaration with cleric leaders of different sects to revive SOP for congregational prayers in mosques across the country.
