In a disturbing incident that occurred in the Jatoi Tehsil of Muzaffargarh in August, three men attempted to gang-rape a 15-year-old boy, Zain-ul-Abideen be and when the boy resisted they shot him in the buttock and left him to die in a forest.
The Beet Mir Hazar Khan Police has registered an FIR under section 377 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and has so far arrested two of the suspects.
In a video statement recorded while Zain was in hopital، a day before, he confirmed the incident.
“Meena Korai and Omar Korai kidnapped me from the village. Omar Korai then proceeded to rape me. When Meena Korai tried to rape me as well I resisted, following which he shot me in the back,” he says while writhing in agony.
The incident happened during the auspicious occasion of Ashura. The three men tricked Zain into accompanying them on their bike under the pretext of taking him out to eat seafood. According to the police report, the accused Omar Korai, Shafter Jhabil, and Meena Korai took Zain to a forest and attempted to gang-rape him but the boy fought back.
Angered, the merciless culprits shot zain in his lower back, seriously injuring him, and left him for dead in a desolate corner of the forest.
“We received this complaint on the 10th of Muharram and we acted immediately. We formed teams to immediately apprehend the culprits. The main accused along with one of his associates has already been arrested while one of the accused Omar Korai is still at large but we will apprehend him soon”, says Javed SHO of the Bat Mir Hazar Khan Police station.
“I implore the Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and the Chief Minister (CM) to give us justice and to provide aid for the treatment of my nephew,” says Zain’s Uncle. “I hope the authorities make an example out of these culprits so that no such incident occurs in our area again,” he continues angrily.
The boy was later shifted to the Nishtar Hospital Multan in critical condition. The police registered a case against the culprits on the complaint of Ehsan Ahmad, the boy’s father.
Local MNA Syed Basit Sultan Bukhari and Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Khurram Leghari visited the boy at Nishtar Hospital Multan and promised swift actions against the perpetrators.
