LAHORE

On September 9, a woman was gang-raped on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway in front of her children.

CCPO Lahore, Umar Sheikh blamed the survivor for being out late and his remarks outraged the people so much that they ended up protesting on the streets.

An apology was expected from him but he tried to justify his statements instead.

On Monday, Sheikh was summoned by the senate’s Committee on Human Rights to provide a briefing on the progress of the case.

The CCPO was berated by the for presuming that the incident took place because the victim “was travelling late at night without her husband’s permission”.

Committee asked him if the victim had said this in her statement at which Sheikh said that it was his assumption.
