Girl gang raped in Lahore
A girl who had been lured in by an online friend was gang raped by 3 suspects in a car at gunpoint in the Millat Park police precinct in Lahore on Monday, July 13. According to the victim, she had befriended one of the suspects and had agreed to meet up with him in Samanabad. The suspect arrived at the meeting spot in his car along with two friends.
Upon sitting inside the vehicle, the suspects drew their gun on her and gang-raped her before abandoning her in an unpopulated area. The girl has registered a complaint against the three suspects and will undergo a medico-legal examination.
Minors raped in Haripur and Karachi
Police arrest a man for abducting and raping an intellectually disabled 9 year old girl on Sunday, July 12 in Khalabat Township of district Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the complainant, the girl’s father, the apparently drunk suspect abducted the victim from the front porch of their house that evening. She was then raped at a deserted spot near the Tarbela Cotton Mills, and then dropped back home.
The victim was unable to speak about the assault. She was taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital when her mother noted she was bleeding, where a doctor confirmed sexual assault. A second examination conducted at the Haripur Trauma Center under police order also confirmed sexual assault. Police managed to apprehend the suspect and obtain a two-day physical remand from a judicial magistrate.
Meanwhile, Karachi police arrested one Munnu for allegedly abducting and raping his 5 year old neighbour in Gadap Town on Friday, July 10. According to the girl’s father, the victim was outside playing when she was abducted and then raped at an unknown location.
Polio plagues Pakistani children
Over 260,000 children aged five and below across 44 union councils in Faisalabad to receive polio drops under a special, targeted anti-polio campaign to be carried out from July 20 to July 25. Around 600 Health Department teams to carry out the immunization drive in Jaranwala, Tehsil City and Sadar.
Meanwhile, an eight-month-old boy in Hazro, Attock was diagnosed with vaccine-derived poliovirus type-2 (VDPV2), for which vaccinations were stopped in 2014. The resurgence of a VDPV2 case means this strain was never completely eradicated, all the while Pakistan struggles to eliminate wild poliovirus which has managed to infect 56 children across the country since the turn of the new year.
Pir booked for boy’s death
Mehmood Kot police lodged a case against one Pir Ghaffar for causing the death of Muhammad Sajid (16) on Thursday, July 9. According to the aggrieved family’s complaint submitted on Sunday, July 12, the ill boy had been brought to the faith healer who proceeded to “exorcise” Sajid using hot coals and herbs. The victim fell unconscious during the torture and then later succumbed to his injuries en route to a hospital.
