On Monday morning, citizens were shocked to find out that the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) located at the I. I Chundrigar road in Karachi, was attacked by four terrorists carrying heavy ammunition. Luckily the Rapid Response Force (RRF) of Sindh police and Rangers reached the building and began a counter operation with the help of private security personnel already guarding the PSX building.

DG Rangers Sindh Major General Umar Bukhari said that a car carrying gunmen reached the PSX building at 10:02 AM after which they tried to enter the building firing indiscriminately but the combined security network of police, Rangers and private security guards of PSX were able to neutralize them by 10:10 AM.

“The total action time was eight minutes as the security guards were able to kill two out of four terrorists at the very first entrance,” said Bukhari.

The DG further said that the terrorists had planned a long assault which included bloodshed and holding people hostage. They were also carrying AK-47s, grenade launchers, food items and explosives including hand grenades.

The Bomb Disposal Unit also reached the site and immediately a Blue Toyota Saloon 2013 model with the number ‘BAP-629’ parked outside PSX was possibly used by the terrorists. A social media user claims that it is owned by a private bank.

A senior police officer, Farhan Khan shared the pictures of the two police constables from the RRF who were able to take down two terrorists inside the premises.

Videos of Constable Muhammad Rafiq and Constable Khalil of Rapid Response Force (RRF) of Sindh police went viral on social media while they shared the detailed story about how they neutralized the terrorists.

The two constables are being celebrated as heroes on the internet. One of them told the reporters present outside the PSX that an attacker was about to throw a hand grenade when he took a headshot and took him down.

Head of a leading welfare organisation, Edhi Foundation which serves the city with ambulances and many other charity services, Faisal Edhi said, “One police officer and two private security guards were also martyred in the attack while,” in a video message being shared on the internet.

Seven others had also been injured in the attack while all the dead bodies and injured have been shifted to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, he said.

The name of the martyred police office is Muhammad Shahid.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has reportedly released an image of the four terrorists . They belonged to BLA’s Majeed Brigade, a fidayeen brigade that trains suicide terrorists . The pictures of the alleged terrorists also went viral on the internet.

The terrorists  are being identified as Tasleem Baloch alias Muslim, Shehzad Baloch alias Cobra, Salman Hammal alias Notak and Siraj Kungur alias Yaagi. BLA militants fired six shots as soon as they reached the PSX gate, according to DG Rangers Sindh.

Interior Minister of Pakistan, Brig(R) Ijaz Shah also said the building of the PSX was being cleared and just like previous terrorist groups, this one will also get its comeuppance.

Later a video from inside the PSX also emerged on social media with LEAs in control of the situation after clearing the building.

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tweeted that he was grateful to Sindh police for not only saving so many lives but successfully defending the nerve centre of Pakistan’s economy. While Senior Vice President, Spokesperson of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and former Home Minister of Balochistan, Senator Sarfraz Bugti says the attackers should not be ascribed any identity.
