Child Labour

Rights activists have urged federal and provincial governments to make child labour a cognizable offence and set up rehabilitation centres.

They also called upon the governments to ensure that in all laws the child must be defined as anyone under the age of 18 as stated by the UN.

Honor Killings

A man shot and killed his sister and her husband for marrying without the family’s consent in Swabi. The police have arrested the accused.

In another incident of honour killing, a woman was stabbed to death by her brother in Attock. The victim was a mother of three and was living with in-laws.

Locust Attacks

The federal government is going to launch the Locust Emergency and Food Security program with the help of the World Bank.

The Locust Emergency and Food Security (LEAFS) project would carry out its activities in 18 districts: nine in Balochistan, four in Punjab, four in Sindh and one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meanwhile, Minister for National Food Security & Research Fakhar Imam said that the locust attacks have been minimized and the situation is under control.

NDMA Warns Of Urban Flooding

The National Disaster Management Authority warns that the upcoming monsoon can cause urban flooding in all major cities of the country.

NDMA chairman Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal says that heavy rainfalls can also trigger landslides and glacier outbursts in hilly areas.
