BONDED LABOR

A prisoner in shackles

AGHS has successfully represented bonded labourer cases in the reporting period. One such case is of Irshad Hussein a bonded labourer at a brick-kiln. His employer fraudulently got his thumb impression on blank papers and later used them to make a false promissory note of Rs. 500,000 on the pretext that Irshad Hussein had borrowed the said amount.

The employer instituted a suit for recovery of the said amount under the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, alleging that the money had been borrowed in presence of witnesses. Irshad Hussein approached AGHS and the latter filed an appeal on his behalf before the High Court and won a decision in favour of our client, setting aside the judgment of the trial court.

AGHS has been providing free legal aid to the victims of human rights abuses.
