Lawyer arrested for supplying a gun to the killer of blasphemy-accused

Police arrested a junior lawyer, Lalzada Khan, over suspicion of allegedly providing the murder weapon to the teen who gunned down US national and blasphemy-accused Tahir Ahmad Naseem within the premises of the Peshawar Judicial Complex on July 29. According to authorities, the assailant had named the advocate as the one who provided him the gun – lawyers are typically not searched before entry into the court, which may be how the killer was able to acquire the gun despite tight security.

Family of slain Nowshera minor hold protest

Social media activists and relatives of slain minor Seema carried out a rally from Nowshera Press Club to Shobra Chowk, demanding immediate trial and maximum punishment for prime accused Syed Wali, 18. Seema’s disfigured body was discovered inside a gunny sack in an abandoned poultry farm near her home Hamza Rashaka area of Kheshgi Payanon August 15, after she had gone missing that afternoon. Several blades and two blood-stained bricks were found alongside the body. The deceased’s mother had claimed her daughter was also sexually abused, however, DNA results are awaited.

On August 16, police had arrested Syed Wali, her neighbour, who later confessed to killing the girl.

Man tortures wife to death in Lahore

One Beenish Yousaf, 27, a resident of Bismillah Chowk, Lahore, was tortured to death by her husband on August 19. Beenish and her husband would often argue over trivial matters. On the day of the incident, the accused became incensed and began violently attacking her – she would later succumb to her injuries. Her corpse has been sent to a morgue for a postmortem examination. The investigation is ongoing.

Shooting movies at mosques banned

Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department has banned shooting movies, dramas, and music videos in mosques and shrines, following the controversy of a music video shot at Lahore’s historic Wazir Khan Mosque. In a clip that went viral on social media on August 8, blasphemy allegations were levied against actor Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed who featured in the video. The two would later apologize over backlash against the video.
